Wondering why some people have many followers and others don’t? Want to increase your influence on Twitter and other social media? There’s one simple trick. Find your niche. What’s a niche? A niche is your specialty. No one wants to read about your day-to-day activities (unless you’re a celebrity) so what do you post to Twitter? What do people want to hear? It’s simple- they want to read about what you’re interested in. If you’re interested they will be too. Your passion will come through what you write. Another thing that’s important when you want to increase your Twitter followers is consistency. You have to post at least several times a week, if not every day. That’s what Twitter is all about: short, quick, constant contact.

Also, offer your followers something. Maybe you have a blog where you post reviews, maybe you make graphic designs, or maybe you’re in touch with companies that’ll give discounts or freebies. Whatever it is, give it to your followers. Offer them something in return and they’ll flock to you.

You are not on an island. Reach out to the community you want to reach. Once you have your niche figured out, find people with similar niches and follow them. Connect to the community. Respond to retweets, follows, or comments. The more you interact, the more followers you’ll get.

You can have more than one niche, but don’t get too crazy. Your followers for one niche don’t necessarily want their feed cluttered with info about your other niche. If there is some crossover, then great. An example would be a niche that’s involved in comics and sci-fi shows. There is some amount of crossover there. However if you love Kung Fu movies and high-end purses, you might have an issue. You might be better off creating separate Twitter accounts.

One last tip, make your Twitter tag pertinent to your niche. @PinkLady is not going to get you as many ninja followers as @KungFuForever. It’s simple. Find your sweet spot and dig in. The followers will come.
