2011 has been a fruitful year for the tech companies. Groupon has gained a greater foothold in 2011 by expanding into international markets and acquiring new customers. Groupon went on a buying spree and acquired competitors in Australia, Russia and Japan. 53.8 % of Groupon's revenue comes from overseas operations. Geolocation apps like Foursquare and Facebook Places had a good year as well. Foursquare in particular saw a 1000 % user growth from 2009-2011 with 50 % of its users coming from outside US. On the devices side, the top 3 devices to make its mark are Apple iPad, Samsung Galaxy S II and Amazon Kindle. Online Q & A platform Quora saw a 37000 % increase in the number of users from 1,470 users in January 2010 to 5,47,777 users in January 2011. Others players like Stackoverflow, StackExchange, ExpertsExchange and Chacha saw significant growth as well. So, as 2011 draws to an end, let us look back at the tech companies and their products that made significant gains.
