samsung-logoThe good news for those who use Samsung phones is that the company’s handsets have now been certified as environmentally friendly. Samsung has officially announced that the handsets for its Galaxy Note and Galaxy S2 mobile phones have been made the first handsets for mobile devices to win such green certification, with the award of the official carbon footprint certification from The Carbon Trust - a not-for-profit group, dedicated to cutting carbon emissions.

samsung-galaxy-note-vs-samsung-galaxy-s2The award for the two handsets for Samsung phones was made after the Trust agreed that both the Galaxy S2 and Galaxy Note handsets fulfilled the guidelines laid out in PAS 2050, which sets the worldwide standard for measuring the carbon impact of different commercial products. The actual carbon footprint left by both the Note and S2 handsets for Samsung phones  - the latter of which has currently sold in excess of 20 million across the world - was determined by using the software Footprint Expert 3.3. The results, which were calculated across the lifecycle of each of the handsets, demonstrated that they met the requirements of PAS 2050, as the Managing Director of The Carbon Trust, Darran Messem, acknowledged:

Samsung has been quick off the mark in becoming the first organisation to certify the carbon footprints of mobile devices, and Samsung’s commitment to understanding the environmental impact of its products demonstrates to its customers that it takes climate change seriously.

The positive publicity generated by the certification is likely to further increase sales of both of these Samsung phones, particularly amongst younger customers who take environmental awareness especially seriously and this certification is just the latest demonstration of the company’s commitment to this area. People looking to buy one of these handsets should look for the most beneficial mobile phone deals online, and one great place to compare different deals is at the Dialaphone website. Since the Green Management Strategy was set up in 2009, Samsung has pioneered a number of initiatives designed to improve the environmental impact of all of its products.
